10 frequently asked questions about Invisalign at Roanoke Valley Orthodontics

When patients at Roanoke Valley Orthodontics are investigating treatment options, they often have lots of questions about Invisalign. After all, an alternative to braces for orthodontic treatment that’s virtually invisible is tempting.

These are some of the questions we hear when patients consider Invisalign:

1. What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign treats orthodontic problems using a series of clear aligners made just for you according to a treatment plan prescribed by Dr. Jones.

2. What are Invisalign clear aligners made of?

Invisalign clear aligners are made of a thin, flexible plastic that has been approved by the FDA. This material, called SmartTrack, was created specifically for Invisalign and is BPA, BPS, latex and gluten free. Research studies have shown this material to be the most comfortable and the most efficient. It is also patented, which means it is not the same material used by other aligner companies.

3. How do Invisalign clear aligners straighten my teeth?

Gooey alginate impressions are no longer needed! We use the latest technology to take a radiation-free digital scan of your teeth using the iTero Impressionless Scanner to design a digital map of your teeth and a gradual plan for movement. This only takes five minutes, and then Dr. Jones designs your customized prescription to determine the sequence and number of aligners needed for your optimal treatment plan.

4. What are the benefits of Invisalign clear aligners?

They are virtually unnoticeable, making them ideal for adults or teens who prefer not to have their treatment visible to everyone. The aligners are often more comfortable than traditional braces and can be conveniently removed for photos, meetings, meals and cleaning.

5. How do I keep the Invisalign clear aligners clean?

Since the trays can be removed, you can easily clean them with water and a toothbrush. You can also purchase effervescent cleaning tablets like Retainer Brite.

6. How long will I have to wear Invisalign clear aligners?

The length of your orthodontic treatment will vary from six to 24 months depending upon your individual needs. Dr. Jones will be able to provide a projected treatment time during your complimentary initial consultation

7. Are Invisalign clear aligners good for all ages? Although Invisalign was originally designed for adults, they quickly became popular with teens who wanted the same benefit of a less noticeable treatment for tooth alignment. We are the largest provider in our area of the Invisalign Teen system, which offers all the same benefits as Invisalign for adults.

8. Can I get Invisalign from my dentist?

While many dentists offer Invisalign treatment, a general dentist hasn’t had an additional two years of specialized training in tooth and jaw growth and alignment that an orthodontist has had. Dr. Jones had extensive training in the use of Invisalign during his residency and masters program at the VCU Department of Orthodontics.

9. How much can I expect my treatment to cost?

We will discuss the cost and other details of your corrective treatment at your first appointment. Just like other types of treatment, the cost of Invisalign varies from patient to patient based on individual needs. The best way to get an estimate for your treatment is to schedule a free consultation.

10. How do I choose the best provider for my Invisalign treatment?
