If you ask any Roanoke Valley Orthodontics team member what they love the most about working at RVO, they will tell you it’s the patients! The amount of time a patient is in active treatment varies from case to case, but it’s usually between 18 months and 2 years. From your first appointment with us to your last retainer check, you are a part of our practice family!
Our favorite thing to post on social media is a picture of one our our patients showing off a brand new smile. Just scroll through our Facebook timeline or check us out on Instagram, and you will enjoy seeing all of our RVO Smiles: Photo after photo of smiling patients who have just finished their braces or Invisalign treatment. If you look closely, you will see that about 20 percent of our patients in The New Smiles Club are adults!
“Do it yourself” can be a money-saving and educational approach to many kinds of projects, including home improvement, car maintenance or computer repairs. But it’s not a safe approach to orthodontics.
On YouTube, social media and elsewhere, contributors are sharing videos and articles about DIY orthodontic methods they claim will straighten teeth. They use everything from dental floss and rubber bands to paper clips and earring backs.
One of the most common questions we get asked at Roanoke Valley Orthodontics is whether braces will hurt when they are applied. [We have a list of some other frequently asked questions here.]
The simple answer is no. When the braces go on, there’s absolutely no pain. Each case is different, but most of the time, we’ll clean, dry and prepare your teeth then use an adhesive to attach the brackets to the teeth. Once the brackets are secure, we’ll place the wires in the brackets and hold them in place with rubber bands. You might feel some pressure once everything is in place, but the procedure is painless.
Summer is right around the corner, and we hope you have lots of fun things planned. Our patients are involved in all sorts of fun activities during the summer, from family vacations and camps to jobs and even school. We love knowing what you’re up to, so leave us a note on our Facebook page, tweet us (@RoanokeSmiles), or tag us on Instagram (@roanokesmiles) to share your summer adventures with us!
