Quick Fixes for Your Appliance
If a wire pokes out or a bracket feels loose, you’ve got this. You can often use a clean pair of tweezers or even the back of a pencil eraser to gently push a wire back into place. Cover any bothersome spots with wax and give us a call so we can get you back on track.

Strategic Snacking
To keep your treatment moving fast and your braces safe, we’ll want to avoid anything that could pop a bracket or bend a wire. Don’t worry, it’s only temporary.
- Sticky Stuff: Skip the caramel and taffy for now.
- The Big Crunch: Avoid chewing on ice or hard chips.
- Tough Treats: Instead of biting into a whole apple or corn on the cob, slice them up. You can still enjoy your favorites with a little extra intention.
Feeling at Ease
It’s totally normal to feel some general soreness for the first few days. It just means your teeth are starting to move into their new positions! To feel better fast, try a warm salt water rinse or an over-the-counter pain reliever.
Pro tip: If anything feels like it’s rubbing, just use a little bit of our dental wax to smooth things over.
What’s Up With Loose Teeth
Don’t be surprised if your teeth feel a little "wiggly," that’s actually the braces at work. For your teeth to find their new position, they have to move. They’ll settle in and feel stable again soon.

We've had great experiences here over the years for different reasons. Both with Dr. Jones and now Dr. Stapleton. We have used Roanoke Valley Orthopedics for all 3 of our kids. We’ve had 2 in braces and one in Invisalign, I could rave enough about how perfect their smile is. My 2 boys when they go to the regular dentist they tell them both they could be teeth models :) I couldn’t say enough positive things about our The staff at RVO. We had an excellent experience today actually. First, we came one day early but they got us in anyway. Then, Tiffany took us back and not only was very friendly and welcoming, but she made time for my daughter to get her top braces put on today, which was awesome! Thank you Tiffany for making our experience so wonderful and for being so accommodating!
They were all very nice and timely. Took the time to explain what was going to happen and was patient and calm through getting braces. Explained next steps as well. Very well organized office.
